Direction of light and shadow: Shadow planning
|
| |
 | |
Shadow is by no means the complete
absence of lighting, but is a reduction
in its presence.
The elements and properties of the
room are equalised, giving emphasis
to one another.
Hard shadows however make strong
divisions and can act as specific
separators. Soft shadows create
transitions, and mergers.
Shadow contours logically should
correspond to room contours.
Architecture should not be overlaid
with undefined, arbitrary lighting
projections.

Reflections give the lighting
character
|
|
 |
|
| |
Various materials provide different
reflections and thereby create different
lighting characteristics. They are defined
by surface quality, direction of light
incidence and angle of observation.
This results in pure and limitless
diversity.
